You have surely encountered this world while scrolling through social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… It is everywhere but what is the essence of this phenomenon? Is it an internet trend that would fade with time or is it here to stay?
First of all, what is K-pop?
It is an abbreviation of Korean Pop and it’s been taking the world by storm. However, because of the language barrier, some wonder why it has become so popular. For the fans; especially non-Korean ones, the secret lies in the visuals. In other words, the choreography, their not so ordinary concepts for their music videos and their « pretty » features. K-pop girl groups and boy groups alike have choreographies for the majority of their songs which makes the beat even more attractive. The artists perform those synchronized clean dances both in their music videos and live concerts adding up to the fans’ infatuation!
And of course It’s impossible to talk about Kpop without talking about its most popular Icon BTS (방탄소년단). The Korean group broke countless records and it is not stopping anytime soon with 21 records in their « bag », as soompi.com precises. One of their most remarkable achievement is being the first korean artist to top the prestigious Billboard Top 200, first korean artist to win two consecutive awards at the billboard music awards and a lot more.
So what is the secret « What sets them apart is definitely their social media, » said Herman. « It brings them closer to fans, making them feel as real as idols can get, » said Tamar Herman, who covers K-pop for Billboard.com. However, that’s not only that as RM the spokesman of the group stated « People pay attention only to the fact that we have well communicated with our fans on social media but more importantly is that since we’re singers, the quality of our music and performance should be unconditionally good, » RM, leader of the group, said during a recent interview with Yonhap News Agency in Seoul.
To wrap up I advice you to check that growing phenomenom out as I myself am an avid fan.
« what are you so afraid of losing when nothing in this world belongs to you. »
I think of this quote way often, way more than i should.
Every time the sunset is too beautiful, the trees cast the shadows on the streets, and i catch myself missing old versions of me, of how everything used to be .. every time a train passes by and i just stand there, standing still in a world that’s constantly moving forward.
Every time i raise my eyes to the vast deep blue sky and the stars are flickering with light, a passionate light, showering the world with their magic. Every time the moon is following me down a long heavy road from home to home — a feeling I’ll never get used to. Every time i catch a bird doing its little dance in the misty rain and it all feels a bit too good to be true .. every time a familiar face passes next to me on a road busy with people, with life.
Every time i feel safe, scared, hopeful .. every time i feel, i am reminded of how « nothing in this world belongs to me, and i belong to everything. » Of how i have nothing to lose yet everything to experience .. what a wonderful gift it is that none of this grief i carry between the palms of my hands belongs to me, none of this beauty around me belongs to me. I get to live through it all. I get to experience it all.
