Lies and truth

– You are thinking again

– hmmm

– What’s the problem?

– I was wondering why people tell lies. Why can’t they accept the things the way they are?

– Maybe they never read Tolstoy; « Anything is better than lies and deceit » but I understand them. I think they have their reasons to do that.

– « have their reasons »?

– Yes of course. People generally lie to achieve something, take the example of politicians « Never attempt to win by force what can be won by deception ». This rule stated in 1513 by Machiavelli seems to have affected generations of corrupt politicians.

– So people lie because of their evil human nature?

– Maybe the approach of Thomas Hobbes is not the right approach here, because some people lie in order to protect others or because they are afraid to lose them. Sometimes they even lie to protect themselves from society.

– From society ?

– Yes. Like our conversation right now. It’s just another lie. My existence itself is just an illusion. I am just a personality in your subconsciousness, created by you, because you don’t have anyone to speak to in real life, because you are lonely, because…

– Stop it

– Sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you or your pride.

– I got your point, so in the end everybody lies. Then where am I supposed to find the truth?

– The truth? There is no truth in this world. Well, it’s more like, nobody has the entire truth. What we know are just fragments of it. The truth itself is not attainable by a human being, because once attained, we are then omnipotent beings and this is in contrast to the fragile nature of a human being.

– So you are asking me not to go after the truth?

– Of course not. It is true that we don’t have the necessary knowledge to attain the truth but we have to try. « I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing. »

– Plato …. Our beloved Plato <3

« what are you so afraid of losing when nothing in this world belongs to you. »

I think of this quote way often, way more than i should.
Every time the sunset is too beautiful, the trees cast the shadows on the streets, and i catch myself missing old versions of me, of how everything used to be .. every time a train passes by and i just stand there, standing still in a world that’s constantly moving forward.

Every time i raise my eyes to the vast deep blue sky and the stars are flickering with light, a passionate light, showering the world with their magic. Every time the moon is following me down a long heavy road from home to home — a feeling I’ll never get used to. Every time i catch a bird doing its little dance in the misty rain and it all feels a bit too good to be true .. every time a familiar face passes next to me on a road busy with people, with life.

Every time i feel safe, scared, hopeful .. every time i feel, i am reminded of how « nothing in this world belongs to me, and i belong to everything. » Of how i have nothing to lose yet everything to experience .. what a wonderful gift it is that none of this grief i carry between the palms of my hands belongs to me, none of this beauty around me belongs to me. I get to live through it all. I get to experience it all.
