“Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and technology conducted at the nanoscale, which is about 1 to 100 nanometers. Nanoscience and nanotechnology are the study and application of extremely small things and can be used across all the other scientific fields, such as chemistry, biology, physics, material science, and engineering.” –nano.gov-
Inspired by the magnificence of such enhanced technology, IEEE EMBS INSAT Student Branch threw, on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017, an illuminating initiative under the name of “Nano-Bang” (probably got it from the big bang theory TV show).
Getting out of the classrooms, coming down the stairs, reaching the hall’s entrance, the closest project on display was titled “Why Nano? What is the relationship between the size of Nano particles and their effectiveness?” Just as the title suggests, it showed the tie-in between the dimensions and the efficiency of Nano particles with a few industry applications such as self-cleaning windows.
Right beside it was the next project bearing the name “Nano cellulose” which, as its name indicates, explained what Nano cellulose is, what its main source was, and its industrial applications in a wide variety of domains.
Down at the very right corner of the hall was the next presentation: “Nanotechnology Risks: Health and the Environment”. It showed how Nanotechnology used in cosmetics has been linked to causing cancer and revealed the fact that this technology isn’t recyclable.
The remaining projects were “X-Ray Nano particles: tumors treatment”, “Nano robots in the medical field” and “Alzheimer and Nano technology”.
The first explained the Nano vectors’ ability to carry a remedy and target cancer cells specifically. The second showed how Nano robots are an alternative to medication, how they can be used to replace neurons and their functions, how they can dissipate high-temperature substances (reaching 307 Celsius degrees) which kill certain dangerous bacteria (C.Tetani for example) and how the “swallowable capsule robot” is capable of substituting fibro since it’s equipped with a camera and can extract samples for further analysis. The last presentation described how Nano particles can be coated with active principals and inserted in a capsule that’s taken orally and goes right up to the brain cells.
Nano-bang was an informative initiative by the IEEE EMBS INSAT Student Branch which is a great way to start the chapter’s activities inside our Institute.
